Where are Your Habits Leading You?
by Jack Canfield

You are an accumulation of your habits. From how you get out of bed, how you shower, how you dress, how you walk, sit, and talk, how you respond to the world, how you act in front of others, and how you think; you’re living out your habits.

Habits are necessary.

They free up your mind so you can concentrate on how to survive day to day. You don’t have to think about how to drive your car so you can be on the lookout for danger while you are driving. You don’t have to think about how to walk so you can concentrate on where you’re going.

Unfortunately, habits can also keep you locked in self-destructive patterns, which will limit your success.

Is there something you want to accomplish in life that requires you to up-level your game? Whatever it is that you want to achieve, you will need to drop those bad habits that are lead to a dead-end and develop new ones that are in alignment with the life you want to live.

People don’t suddenly appear in the life they want to live… their habits play a large part in determining their outcome.

What are the habits you have that are keeping you from achieving your goals?

Really be honest with yourself here…

Are you always running late?
Do you return phone calls within 24 hours?
Do you get enough sleep?
Do you follow through on your promises?
Do you plan out your day?

Imagine what your life would be like if all your habits were their productive counterparts!

What would your life be like if you ate healthy meals, exercised and got enough sleep?

What if you saved your money, stopped using credit cards and paid cash for everything?

What if you stopped procrastinating, overcame your fears, and began networking with people in your field?

Would your life be different? I bet it would!

So, my suggested action step for you is to write down some productive habits you could adopt and visualize in your life. Step two is to ‘act as if’ you were living these new habits right now!

I’d like to help you get moving toward creating more successful habits, so I’d recommend you develop four of your new success habits each year, one for each quarter.

Once you pick the new habit you’re ready to adopt, next you’ll want to create a method that will support your new habit.

Here are some ideas… You could write it down on a card that you keep with you and read several times a day. You could make it a part of your daily visualization. You could also enlist the help of an accountability partner who has habits to change, or work with a personal coach who can keep you on track.

It’s important to make a 100% commitment to your new habit, so be specific about the steps that you’re willing to take in order to drop an old habit and adopt a new one. Don’t be vague about how you will change your habits. Spell it out for yourself so you can recognize situations that motivate you to act out your new habit.

Just developing four new habits a year will dramatically shift your life to be more in line with your vision. And the more in line it becomes, the easier the other habits are to replace because your perspective is shifting and you can see more clearly how your old habits aren’t serving you anymore.

Make the decision. Make the commitment. Then watch your new, positive life unfold!

I’ll see you in another two weeks in the next edition of Success Strategies. In the meantime, take the time to implement just one of the strategies discussed in today’s issue.

Anywhere you go, online or retail, there are countless articles and books claiming to help you beat your problems with anger management. These information sources provide lots of techniques for learning to tame your temper. The claim is that they can help you learn to gain control of your anger before you do or say something that worsens the situation.

The problem is that some of these resources aren’t particularly effective. Anyone can claim to be an anger management expert and offer advice. However, if they don’t have the credentials to back up their advice, you can’t be sure of their credibility. Naturally, this makes some people question the usefulness of anger management techniques in general.

The answer is both yes and no. Certain criteria must be in place before an anger management class can be considered effective. Basically, you must be committed to an investment of effort and time towards putting into practice your newly learned skills.

You don’t have a chance of being successful if you’re not prepared to change your behavior. It’s essential that you carry out the techniques you have been taught. It’s not enough that your friends and family want you to overcome your problems with anger management. Real change has to come from within. That requires that you deliberately choose to change your usual reaction to certain situations. You need to be determined to replace them with the healthier skills that you have learned.

Lots of professional associations and organizations specialize in psychological issues, including anger management. Through their work over the years, they have developed methods of learning new skills that can help people overcome their anger management issues. Take a look at the website of the American Psychological Association, for example. You’ll find a lot of information there that deals specifically with anger issues.

There are lots of case studies that document the success rates of individuals with different levels of anger management issues. The association has worked with these individuals using the strategies presented on their site. The results are documented and available for anyone who is interested.

There’s a common theme among both the non profit websites and the ones that provide online anger management classes. Most of the strategies that are recommended involve relaxation and breathing techniques. Also, it’s important to back away from the situation mentally so you can think things through logically before responding. You also have to change your cognitive thinking patterns.

If you’re willing to really follow these various anger management tips, you’ll have success. Training can actually be very effective. But only if you’re prepared to work hard and implement the techniques. The reward, however, is a more peaceful, healthy and happy life.

About Conversational Hypnosis

Hypnosis is an art, and to become a master in this form of art you must go beyond being an average Conversational Hypnotist and create a masterpiece that is to be called your own. Once you have accomplished this feat you will truly be a part of the Hypnosis world and holding your own and being thoroughly knowledgeable about Conversational Hypnosis.

Conversational Hypnosis has unique aspects that make it different from other forms of Hypnosis. Your goal will be to gather all your knowledge about Conversational Hypnosis and refine it into the art.

It is quite important to master the fine points of the language you will use as well as the hypnotic themes that you will utilize to get your subject into a trance. There is also a need for you to perfect the type of atmosphere you will want to create for your subject. You must also master ways to create tension using authority strategies in order to put the unconscious mind into a functional state.

Now these should need and refined until it becomes the fine art that is about Conversational Hypnosis. Step one in this area of refinement will be to introduce the hypnotic gaze induction. This is one of the main skills that you will use to put a purpose behind the entire hypnosis process. One of the main things you should remember about Conversational Hypnosis and hypnotic gaze induction is that these are very powerful and you would do well to keep that in mind.

The power of the hypnotic gaze induction is under your control and for you to use at your own discretion, it would do you well to remember how powerful this is. To add structure to your hypnosis try adding the hypnosis gaze induction and the 4 stage protocol. To command some sort of action from your listener you should evoke an unconscious response by being able to absorb their attention. Before moving on your aim is to make sure that your subject has completed all four stages in using the hypnosis gaze induction.

The sixty second hypnotist and hypnotic gaze induction techniques should only be attemted once you have mastered conversational hypnosis and the 4 stage protocol techniques. Combining techniques is a sure fire way to make your very own technique, a masterpiece. Keep it simple, start by using rapport techniques and as you use your language with the hypnotic gaze induction you will start to see results.

In the hypnotic gaze induction you are going to want to focus in on several things. First, you will need to remember that in achieving a successful hypnosis gaze induction holding the subject’s gaze is key. It is quite important that you are able to maintain a level, clear and calm gaze. Never must you allow the subject to see, feel or discern that you are uncomfortable with the situation.

This basically tells you everything about Conversational Hypnosis and the techniques you can combine with the basic steps. Each hypnotist develops his own style in performing the art of hypnosis. Now that you have learned the basics about Conversational Hypnosis it is your turn to create your own hypnotic masterpiece.

The difficulty of certain projects often provokes a desire to delay or otherwise waste time before getting down to business. This urge to procrastinate can affect people’s lives as an occasional temptation or as a nearly irresistible habit, hinging upon the temperament of the individual.

In three particular fields of activity, namely college, business and home life, procrastination can cause an especially detrimental effect. A closer look at the underlying factors for procrastination in each of these settings can help illuminate some of the influences in the decision to procrastinate.

For many students, procrastination emerges as a significant problem during the first years of college. The college procrastinator is frequently an individual who, for one of several possible reasons, did not learn effective time management strategies during high school. Often accustomed to high school assignments that are purely short term or that have been broken down into a series of littler assignments by the high school teachers, the college procrastinator is at a loss to correct to college’s long term assignments. In some examples, the college procrastinator underestimates the difficulty of a term report or end-of-semester project because the professor does not perpetually remind the class about the forthcoming deadline.

For this reason, the difficulties faced by the college procrastinator can be seen as a failure to adjust from a structured, regulated learning environment into an environment where independent time management skills are necessary. Once the need for discipline and organization has been recognized, a few elementary tools, such as a day planner, can help the college procrastinator organize a self-structured series of goals and deadlines for long-term assignments.

Whereas the college procrastinator might evade a difficult assignment by playing computer games or socializing, the business procrastinator is oft more subtle in his or her strategy. Rather than engaging in meaningless amusements, which might be punished if discovered, the business procrastinator often wastes time on activities that are in fact part or his or her job description but that are not the most important tasks at the moment.

In some cases, a lack of confidence in the ability to successfully complete difficult assignments compels the business procrastinator to pursue easy, straightforward minor tasks. In other situations, an inability to recognise high- and low-priority assignments causes the business procrastinator to perceive that the simple jobs are just as crucial as the complicated ones, leaving the business procrastinator no cause to pursue the more Herculean tasks.

To remedy this circumstance, the business procrastinator first must learn to recognize which tasks have the most potential to impact the success of the business itself and to affect the course of business in the long term. Once this has been achieved, the business procrastinator can analyze long-term, complicated tasks into a series of manageable deadlines so that it's not quite so intense.

Instead of being unable to face a deadline, the home-life procrastinator is often ill at ease with the never-ending nature of daily home-related chores. Yard work, home repairs, cleaning and meal preparation can all assume the uninspiring role of routine inconveniences in a person’s life. As incomplete chores accumulate over time, the home-life postponer begins to feel the pressure of house work invading the joys of routine life.

To counter this situation, a specific time should be set aside each week to schedule a reasonable number of weekly chores. By naming which tasks should be accomplished on which day, the home-life procrastinator can gain control over the amount of work. And by fixing certain tasks to certain days, the procrastinator could stop feeling blameworthy about any unfinished chores provided that he or she has attained the chores earmark for the present day.

I’ve introduced this Ultimate Success Formula to many people, and they found it useful to achieve success. I first learnt about this model from a course I attended at AKLTG. I used it to apply to my fitness plan, and I reached my goal of running in a race.

First of all, you must believe in something. Perhaps you believe that you can succeed in this field, or achieve something in some area. It could also be a universal belief. Perhaps you believe that you are going to a great success in your work. For students, their beliefs could be something to do with their academic success and their ambitions.

Next, what we do is shaped by our values. Do we do something out of passion, or out of fear? Perhaps, some people fear being looked down by others if we do not make a name for ourselves. Or we could want to work hard in order to support our families as it is our responsibility to do so. We could also do something out of love or fame.

The next step requires setting a goal. The goal should be as specific as possible. Stretch yourselves and move forward. Perhaps you want to get promoted to a specific possible within two years. You could also want to publish a book by the end of this year. It would be great if you could decide what type of book you are going to write.

After setting the goal, we have to come up with strategies to ensure we take active steps to achieve our goal. The strategies must be specific. It should not read like New Year’s Resolutions which we know we seldom keep due to its vagueness and ambiguity.

Finally, we have to take action. Don’t end up like NATO – No Action, Talk Only. You can incorporate the Magic Rule of 21 and work on each strategy for 21 days in a row. If we achieve success, then we can move on to other Ultimate Success Formulae. If we do not achieve success, then we have to take a second look at our goal. Is it something achievable? Strategies may have to be fine-tuned. Get a pen and a piece of paper, and start writing your Ultimate Success Formula.

One good way to have time to nourish your soul is to go on a trip. It can be a camping trip, which I had just come back from, or you can go on a cruise to relax. Staring at the sea and sunbathing on the deck are some good ways to relax. You are far away from your work, and this is one of the best times to read a book.

If you are interested in cruise, there are many cruise specials to choose from. Some of the more premium cruise packages may cost an arm and a leg, but there are also special deals if you know where to look. If you are interested in sailing around Latin America, then you can check out the deals at this website. They will tell you the dates to make your booking when it is the cheapest.

There are many other deals as well. Luxury cruise vacations allow you to relax and sip the wine and you get served. As you reach interesting exotic destinations, you get to experience other cultures as well.

You can also use this chance while on a cruise to think through your goals. Do you need to improve your strategies in order to reach your goals? What beliefs do you have that shape your goals?

By going on a cruise instead of taking the plane, you have more time for yourself. I always find staring at the sea calming, and the cruise liners are huge enough to ensure a smooth ride.
